"Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom"     John F. Kennedy

“Concealed Handgun”

means a handgun, the presence of which is not openly discernable to the ordinary

observation of a reasonable person.

Central Texas Concealed Handgun Training provides the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) required classroom training and firearm qualification that students need to obtain a Texas Concealed Handgun License (CHL).

Obtaining a permit to carry a concealed handgun in the State of Texas requires completion of the Texas DPS course, qualifying with a handgun at the range, and passing a 25 question test. The applicant then applies and pays a fee to the State which completes a background check and completes the issuance of the license. That fee is different from the fee you pay for this course.

The licensee (That's You) must recertify with the State every 5 years. We offer the required recertification classes also. Check with DPS on your third renewal to see if you need to take the class.

You can review the current Texas Concealed Handgun Laws and selected statutes 2011-2012 {CHL-16} by clicking the link below:

To train and qualify students for submission to the Texas Concealed Handgun License qualification.  Upon completion, students will have the following materials required to submit their application:

  • 6 Hours of classroom instruction certification for completed classroom curriculum and firearm qualification test.
  • TxDPS CHL Application
  • TxDPS and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) approved fingerprint
  • Required Passport Photographs or Texas Drivers License

CHL and CHL Renewal courses are not intended to train students how to shoot a firearm.  The qualification test portion of the course is required by the State of Texas to demonstrate your ability to safely and properly handle and shoot a handgun. Additional classes available include "Basic Handgun" and "Basic Home Safety" instruction.
